Mark di Suvero at Crissy Field

crissyart

From May 22, 2013 through May 26, 2014 visitors to Crissy Field can enjoy a public art installation by artist Mark di Suvero courtesy of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.   The installation is composed of eight impressive sculptures spanning up to fifty feet high and forty feet wide.  Crissy Field, with its spectacular views of the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, Alcatraz Island, and the San Francisco skyline is the perfect backdrop from which to view these large-scale pieces, many of which move and sway in the wind.  The sculptures complement the lawn beautifully and the playful designs are sprinkled on the grass like toys in a sandbox.  I love public art-it inspires, educates and enriches without being obtrusive or pretentious.  So go ahead, run on the lawn, fly a kite, have a picnic in the grass and enjoy the art!
